Tenant Arrested After Pepper Spray Assault on Landlord

The landlord was sprayed with bear spray by his tenant who was disturbed by noise the victim was making while doing maintenance work at the apartment complex.

A Belmont man was arrested last week, after assaulting his landlord and spraying him with pepper spray.

Belmont police responded to reported assault last Thursday at around 6:00 p.m. at an apartment complex on Carlmont Drive.

Upon arrival officers found that the property manager had been assaulted and sprayed in the face with pepper spray.

Police say the suspect, Steven Plummer, 55, used a form of spray used to repel wild animals (known as bear spray) on his landlord.

According to police, Plummer confronted the victim about the noise the property manager and a worker were making while doing maintenance on the apartment. During the confrontation, Plummer struck the victim in the face and sprayed him with pepper spray.

Paramedics from the Belmont Fire Department treated the victim at the scene for minor injuries and exposure to pepper spray. He was not transported to the hospital.

Officers found Plummer in his apartment and took him into custody without incident.

Plummer was booked into the San Mateo County Jail in Redwood City on charges of Assault & Battery, Misuse of Tear Gas and Felon in Possession of Tear Gas.
