Slideshow: Still Plenty of Valentine's Treats at Emay's Sweet Shop

The new candy store in Carlmont Shopping Center is chock full of Valentine's treats, and it's open till 8 p.m. tonight for those last minute shoppers.

When Emay Wang opened her candy store in the in December, she was combining two of her passions: candy and color.

"I love candy and I love color. I want to have fun with candy and in this shop I can," said Wang as she straightened up bins of gummy bears, candy hearts and M&M's.

Wang, who opened Emay's Sweet Shop just in time for Christmas, spent the past weekend gearing up for one of the busiest days in the candy business--Valentine's Day.

"I have candy from all over the world," said Wang. "The chocolate is from Leonidas, a famous Belgium chocolatier."

Clearly a chocolate purist, Wang explained, "I sampled lots of chocolate, but found Leonidas to be the most traditional, with no added flavors or fruit--just very high quality chocolate with intense flavor."

Janice Olsen stopped by Emay's Sweet Shop on Sunday afternoon to shop for a Valentine's Day treat for her granddaughter.

"I was the first customer at Emay's when she opened in December," said Olsen, a 36-year Belmont resident. She added that her son, Rob Olsen, is the first vice- president of the Belmont Chamber, so she likes to patronize Belmont businesses.

Like something every kid dreams about, Emay's is a sea of color and confection---from artfully arranged jars of rock candy to stuffed animals and bins of red hearts and candy corn for all seasons,  it would be hard to be under the age of 18 and not sneak in to Emay's on a daily basis.

"I do get a lot of kids who come in after school for a few pieces of candy," said Wang.

Zach Burgos and his brother Matthew, both students at , stopped in with their dad, Jeff.

"We're here to get some Valentine's candy for our friends," said Zach. But after shopping around, the threesome decided it was probably a good idea to pick up something for mom too.

Emay's Sweet Shop is located in the Carlmont Shopping Center, 1031 Alameda de las Pulgas. The shop will be open from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Valentine's Day. For more information, call 650-394-4244 or email emay@emaysseetshop.com.
