School's Out, Let the Construction Commence

The extensive work being done at Ralston Middle School will require the entire campus to be closed down for the summer, including the parking lot and sidewalks.

Now that summer break has arrived, construction crews and heavy equipment will take the place of students and staff members on campuses in the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District.

Over the next three months, improvements and repairs will be made to Cipriani Central Elementary School, Fox, Nesbit Elementary and Sandpiper elementary schools, and Ralston Middle School.

The 2013 summer projects are funded through voter approved Measures I and N, as were the projects that were completed on four campuses last summer.

According to the BRSSD website, the following improvements and repairs will be made this summer:

The scope of work at Ralston Middle School will include renovations to the existing classrooms, new roofing, and access improvements. Plans are being developed for closure of the campus access by erecting temporary fencing, which will close off all access into the Ralston campus, including the parking lot and pedestrian sidewalk.

According to Belmont City Manager Greg Scoles’ Weekly Update, temporary fencing is tentatively scheduled for installation on Monday, June 17 (fencing will remain around campus until Sept. 3).

The city says once the fencing plans are finalized, they will notify the residents in the surrounding neighborhood about sidewalk restrictions and other safety precautions.
