Reading is So Delicious, Especially in Summer!

The final homework project is complete, and the textbooks have been returned, so now it’s time to read just for the fun of it.

The Belmont Library has revved up for the summer by organizing a huge assortment of events to get kids reading for fun.

For starters, library assistant Kayla Figard says the 2013 Children’s Summer Reading Club (June 1-Aug. 30) is a good way to keep track of what kids are reading and reward them at the end of the summer for their literary accomplishments. To join, just sign up and pick up a reading log at the Belmont Library. When the log is complete, return it to the Belmont Library for a final prize and raffle ticket.

Saturday, June 15 at 2 p.m. Dad & Me at the Library: Dads, Uncles, Grandpas, Big Brothers and Whole Families are invited to join us for a performance by the Puppet Art Theater Co. presented in concert with the Fatherhood Collaborative of San Mateo County. What a great activity for Father’s day weekend!

Tuesday, June 18 at 5:30 p.m. Uncle Jer’s Bees: Uncle Jer brings live bees, puppets, a multimedia slideshow, and honey samples to the Belmont Library! This one-hour presentation includes lots of question and answer time, as well as an activity book and honey stick for each child!

Thursday, June 20 at 6 p.m. Stuffed Animal Sleepover: Treat your stuffed animal or doll to a fun sleepover at the library! Stuffed animals should be dropped off by 6pm and picked up the next day. We will take pictures of your stuffed animal playing, reading, sleeping, and having fun with their friends at the library and turn the photos into a fun slideshow to share.

Saturday, June 29 at 2 p.m. Kickoff event with Magic Dan: Hilarious and amazing, Magic Dan entertains kids and adults with his astounding tricks!
