Obituary: Madoline Porter of Belmont, Was Active in SMC Women's Club

Madoline A. Porter  May 5, 1915-June 15, 2013

Madoline passed away at home in Belmont at the age of 98 on June 15, 2013.
She was born, raised and educated in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, her great grandparents having migrated from Spain. She came to Santa Cruz, California with her infant son in October, 1944 having married and divorced during World War II. In Santa Cruz, she met and married William R. Porter with whom she was happily married for 68 years up until her passing. Both in Santa Cruz and subsequently in Salinas, she worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for a realty company and a large crop dusting company based in Salinas.

In 1962, the Porters moved to the San Francisco Peninsula where Madoline began a long volunteer career in civic and community service which was to span a half century. She utilized her bilingual skills to assist doctors and nurses in various community hospitals. As a longtime member of the Assistance League of San Mateo County, she volunteered for many years at their Turnstyle Thrift Shop in San Mateo. She held many local and statewide offices in the California Federation of Women's Clubs to include president of both the San Mateo County Chapter and then the entire Northern California District. She was also trained and qualified as a registered parliamentarian.

As a loving wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by her husband of 68 years, William R. Porter, her son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Katherine Moore of Atherton, her two grandsons, Russell L. Moore, III, of Los Angeles, CA and Sean Michael Moore, M.D. of New Orleans, LA and a large and extended family of relatives on her beloved island of Puerto Rico.
