District Says Goodbye to Dr. Roy, Hello to New Supe

The board is also expected to approve the addition of an additional kindergarten class at Sandpiper Elementary School for the 2013-14 school year.

Dr. Suzanne Roy will be honored Thursday night for her service to the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District (BRSSD). Roy, who has served as the district's interim co-superintendent throughout the school year, is retiring in June.

Roy came on board in September 2011 as assistant superintendent of educational services and personnel, and joined Nellie Hungerford as co-superintendent in June of last year when then-superintendent Emerita Orta-Camilleri's contract was not renewed.

And as the district says farewell to Dr. Roy, it will welcome its new superintendent. In a statement released Wednesday by the district office, school officials invite the community to meet the new superintendent during the board meeting Thursday evening.

"At our June 6 Regular Board Meeting we will welcome our new Superintendent. This meeting will start with Closed Session at 4:30 p.m. – 4:45 p.m.  Then convene to Open Session where the Board will announce the new Superintendent.  The Board will then recess for a meet and greet with the new Superintendent.  At 6:00 p.m. the Board will reconvene to Closed Session.  The Open Session is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.," the district officials said in a statement.

In addition to the announcement of the new superintendent, the BRSSD board is expected to approve the addition of one kindergarten class at Sandpiper Elementary School for the 2013-2014 school year.
