Caltrain to Add Baby Bullet Express Trains to Weekend Service

Beginning Jan. 1, Caltrain will introduce its "Baby Bullet" service on weekends; four trains that will make seven stops between San Jose and San Francisco.

Bay City News -- Caltrain will add express service to its regular schedule of trains traveling between San Francisco and San Jose on weekends next year.

The transit agency announced on Thursday that beginning Jan. 1, 2011, Caltrain will introduce its "Baby Bullet" service on weekends; four trains that will make seven stops between San Jose and San Francisco. Regular weekend trains currently make more than 20 stops on north- and southbound routes.

Caltrain officials said the new service, which will initially run as a pilot project for three months, is a response to public requests for faster weekend trips from the Peninsula to San Francisco. Caltrain is also trying new ways to boost ridership and revenue in the face of a projected $2.3 million budget gap for its 2011 fiscal year.
