Caltrain Fare to Increase Beginning Friday

Friday, July 1, marks the first day 25 cents will be added to the base fare.

Caltrain passengers will pay an extra 25 cents for rides beginning Friday, as the Peninsula commuter rail service is raising its fare for the sixth time since 2005.

The Caltrain Board of Directors approved the 25 cent increase after hearing public input on resolving the rail system’s fiscal problems, Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.

There were four public meetings on Caltrain’s fiscal issues, as well as a formal public hearing before the Board, she said.
