This Valentine’s Day, the Belmont Library invites booklovers and soul seekers alike to try speed dating with a twist- a literary one.
All you have to do is bring a book you love, hate or just want to talk about.
The event will be Belmont’s first “Literary Singles Mingle” and is open to ages 21 and up. Library staff is hoping it will be as successful as similar events held at the San Francisco Public Library.
“Valentine’s Day can make for a lonely holiday if you’re not in a relationship,” said Belmont Library Manager Kathleen Beasley. “We offer a safe, welcoming space here at the library – the perfect spot for you to start a new friendship or meet the love of your life!”
Library staffers say that so far, it's been mostly women who have taken the idea of Literary Singles Mingle to heart, so they are encouraging men to grab a book and join in.
Participants will be anonymously paired up with a potential partner. Each couple will be given 5 minutes to get to know one another by talking about the book he or she brought or other topics and when the time is up, participants will rotate to the next person.
The event begins at 7 p.m. followed by refreshments and time to mingle.
Due to limited space, pre-registration is required. Please register by coming in person to the Belmont Library, calling 650-591-8286 or emailing belmont@smcl.org. Space is still available - especially for you single men out there!
