City Council Meeting Wednesday...Here Are Some Important Items on the Agenda.

Don't forget to vote on Tuesday, and then come or watch the Belmont City Council meeting on Wednesday!

Often times I am reminded by residents and businesses alike that they are not always advised of important Council items that are coming up that could affect them. It is my hope that through this blog, I am able to get the word out to the public more effectively on important issues.

The next City Council meeting will be held this Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 7:00 p.m. (The Council typically meets on Tuesdays, but due to Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 8, we have moved the meeting to Wednesday---don’t forget to VOTE on Nov. 8!)

One key agenda item on Wednesday will be a discussion on potentially reducing Recology’s proposed 2012 solid waste rates. Recology is currently asking for a 22% increase in our trash/recycling rates!

A lot has been said about Belmont lacking in economic development so be careful of what you ask for, because here it comes!

At 7:00 p.m., the Council will hear presentation by Sares-Regis Homes and McNellis Partners of Concepts/Vision for Firehouse Square Target Economic Development Site. You can view the meeting at Comcast Channel 27 or watch it on your computer at http://www.communitymediacenter.net/watch/belmont_webcast/index.html

Firehouse Square's property is bounded by El Camino Real, O'Neill Ave., 5th Ave. and Broadway. All of this property is owned by Belmont's Low-to-Moderate Housing. It consists of the empty lot on the corner of El Camino Real and O'Neill (the old Ross Lighting site), the old Fire Station on O'Neill Ave., and the empty lot on 5th Ave, between O'Neill and Broadway (the site of the old City Hall building). It is essentially an L-shaped piece of property running from El Camino Real to O'Neill Ave., to 5th Ave. to Broadway.
