Popping the Bubble: Learning To Live In Belmont

Claire becomes part of Belmont

"Claire, you've been here, what, five, six years and you haven't been to a Sunday concert before?"

The shock on George Metropulos' face was undeniable when he learned that the Brother Buzz concert this past Sunday was my first time hearing live music in Twin Pines Park. He'd probably be even more stunned if I told him that I went to Water Dog Lake for the first time just this past week. It's a sad fact, that as an NDNU graduate I've been living in an NDNU bubble, and even though I graduated in 2010, I created a new bubble in my house at the top of Ralston.

And that needs to change, because I'm finding out bit by bit that there are so many fab people in Belmont (and everyone I know seems to know each other through one connection or another) and things are happening! I fell into the college student trap, thinking that life was only on campus, or in San Francisco, when really, it was all waiting for me just down the street.

Our friends (who also live in Belmont) suggested we go to the Brother Buzz concert together, and I had been itching to go, so there I was getting a chili cheese dog (which I highly recommend), talking with George and soaking up some rockin' music, and in that moment, I really felt like I was a part of Belmont.

Coming up in my next post: my new gig singing in the JackAces.
