Proud to be Living in the '94002'

Show your Belmont pride with a limited edition t-shirt.

There may be other Belmonts in the U.S.--the one in New York is home to the famed racetrack; Belmont, Massachusetts made history during the Revolutionary War; and the small town of Belmont, North Carolina is home to Belmont Abbey College. But there's just one "beautiful mountain" (the French translation for Belmont) in this part of the world.

So to help identify residents, business owners and assorted Belmont, Calif. wanna-be's, (hear that San Carlos?), the Belmont Chamber of Commerce has designed a special t-shirt boasting that familiar Belmont postal zip code, 94002, on the front, and the area code, 650, on the back.

The blue Hanes t-shirts are available in adult sizes M,L,XL, and XXL for $15 each. To order, send your size, name, address, phone and email to:

Belmont Chamber of Commerce

1059A Alameda de las Pulgas

Dear Belmont, West.
As a long-time resident of Belmont, Mass. – despite 20 year here, some consider us "new comers" – I love the idea of a "Belmont" t-shirt and will get one as evidence that there is a Belmont on the left coast. As for the other Belmonts, Belmont racetrack is in Elmont, NY on Long Island - it was named after one of the founders - and Belmont, Mass. wasn't incorporated until 1859 so not much happened here during the Revolutionary War (although the Regulars did travel to and from Concord and Lexington a few miles to the north) as this was mostly farm land and orchards. Belmont IS known for McLean Hospital (the psychiatric hospital for the well-to-do and future authors), the John Birch Society, Mitt Romney - a resident of more than 35 years - and one of the best open enrollment high schools in the country.

Let's not forget Belmont, (Belknap County) New Hampshire, zip code 03220.

Or Passau, Germany (Bavaria) which also has the postal code 94002

Thanks for the clarification Franklin. With all the time I've spent in Lex/Concord, I tend to lump Belmont MA in with the Revolutionary War history of the region.

Such random Belmont/94002 knowledge out there! Thanks Steve and Diane.

A little bit of history. Belmont Mass. is our sister city per City Council resolution in 1976. We had a delegation come visit us from Belmont Mass. and we sent a delegation of citizens to visit Belmont Mass. Also while Belmont Ca was incorporated as a town in 1926 it was "established" in December 1850, when the first Road House was built at the corner of Old County Road and Ralston. We were still part of San Francisco County until 1856.

Hello Belmont! When Belmont Patch first launched (October 2010 -- so long ago now!) I interviewed Dave Warden for a story about his trip to Belmont, Mass. I'm unable to search for it right now, but you should be able to find it in the Patch archives. There are a surprising number of similarities between Belmont, CA and the East Coast Belmont.

These new Belmont tshirts are just that.....new. That's probably why you got the response you did that city hall was unable to direct you to a source for Belmont clothing. FYI, I have a small supply of tshirts in my office at city hall (City Clerk's office), One Twin Pines Lane Suite 375.

Hi Carmen....thank you for your post. Can you be more specific about the location of the dangerousRead More driveway? Can you add a photo?
Michele Moyer June 16, 2013 at 09:17 am
Thanks Joan - there is one in the sub-head of the blog I posted on School-Force Voices today; wouldRead More love if it could be corrected. Been scratching my head til I saw this post :)

Sorry about that! There's nothing I can do on my end----it's system-wide bug, which I believe isRead More fixed now. :)

I also preferred the 'old' Patch - this format makes it difficult to find articles that are aren'tRead More that old. One example was the informative article on who was running for city Council. I was having problems finding it and finally had to query on a candidate's name to find. I don't recall having that issue with the original format. Also our neighborhood had a water break line and we were without water for some hours a few Sundays ago. I tried to find out the reason for the break (because of construction or old pipes?) and could not find anything on the Patch regarding this. Not sure if they just didn't report or I just couldn't find.

Not crazy about the new Patch either. Also, I want to post-for sale, and this section is crowdedRead More with announcements, etc.

Another thing that needs to be fixed: When you go to leave a comment, it takes you over to whereRead More you have to sign in, you sign in expecting to be returned to the article on which you are commenting, but it, instead, takes you back to some different article. PLEASE FIX THIS!!!! Also, please reinstate the feature where we can sign up to be notified if/when more comments are made concerning the article(s) we've commented on so we can follow the conversation. Thank you.

what do the local Belmont restaurants think of this? do these people pay a license to the city?
Joan S. Dentler (Editor) June 4, 2013 at 07:15 am
Hi Don....thanks for your question. Yes, Off the Grid does pay a licensing fee to the city, and soRead More far, we haven't heard any concerns by local restaurants. The food trucks provide an option to a traditional restaurant---pick up and go----and they are only around 4-5 hours per week (on Mondays, typically not a big restaurant night anyway). Have you tried the food yet?
