Photo of the Day: Clean Dog, Happy Owners

Pet Food Express in Belmont is offering free self-serve dog washing during its grand opening through July 14.

Pet Food Express celebrated the grand opening of its newest store in Belmont on Saturday the only way store whose motto is "Express your love for pets!" can. The event featured adoptable dogs, free treats for pets and humans, discounts on products and services, and free baths at the store's self-serve dog wash.

Even Nitro, the retired Belmont Police Department K-9 officer attended the event with his human companion, Officer Mike Chicas and his family. Nitro was looking to adopt a new buddy to share his retirement years with.

Belmont resident and Rocket Dog Rescue volunteer Elizabeth Harvey-Guedes was also on hand to help with the rescue organization's adoption/foster event that was set up in the store's parking lot.

"We are always looking for foster homes and volunteers so if you know any one interested please tell them to stop by and say hi and of course they may get some sloppy puppy kisses in return," said Harvey-Guedes.

The new Belmont location, at the corner of Ralston Avenue and El Camino Real, is the 48th Bay Area store for Pet Food Express. For more information, go to http://www.petfoodexpress.com/
