PG&E Requests Whopping Rate Hike
The company plans to use the money to upgrade natural gas and electricity delivery systems.
Your monthly PG&E bill could soar 15.6 percent by 2016, if the company is granted a $5.25 billion rate hike. The utility filed the request for the hike Monday with the California Public Utilities Commission.
SFGate reports that PG&E made the request to pay of an upgrade of natural gas and electricity delivery networks.This is the latest in a string of rate hike requests, most stemming from the 2010 San Bruno explosion.
Currently, PG&E replaces 30 miles of natural gas distribution lines each year. If granted the full rate hike, the company plans to replace 180 miles of gas lines per year.
