Patch Reader Poll: Where’s the Best Cup of Coffee in Belmont?

Whether you dash into a coffee shop on your way to the office, or meet up with friends at a cafe mid-morning, everyone has their favorite place for a good cup of coffee.

A good coffee shop can be like a second home: comfortable seating, pleasant people, perhaps  wi-fi and a good selection of newspapers and magazines.

Many cities have a “coffee scene,” which distinguishes it from its neighboring communities. Does such a scene exist in Belmont? Tell us in this week’s reader poll.

Peet's has the best coffee but the worst atmosphere to sit and enjoy it. Too small and too much commotion. Caffe Mossant is a nice place to sit and enjoy.

OK, so I'm not a huge fan of Pilgrim's coffee, but the baked goods, homey atmosphere and great service are great at this Belmont staple : )

I've tried the coffee at nearly every place, nice restaurants, diners, donut shops, and bakeries. Yet, I still haven't found any enjoyable enough to drink regularly. What Belmont needs is a true independent coffee house. Good coffee has the same complexities as good wine and yet most places that serve it are either serving coffee made from cheap beans (overly acidic) or they serve coffee that tastes burnt (because the beans are over roasted or they kept it around too long in a heated pot). So, until a real coffee house opens, try (believe it or not) Paul's At the Villa. The coffee there is smooth with a bright nose and dark color, and a slightly dry finish. A decent cup of Joe over all.

Peet's is my favorite for grab and go, or grab and chat coffee. I started out at the Virginia Square Peet's in Berkeley, and was pleasantly surprised when they opened a store in Belmont. I like the depth and flavor of their roasts.

The grab and go Joe would be Peet's, and I agree with Rusty on the not so great atmosphere… Best one so far is the home made one with the light to medium roasted, Espresso ground (Dunkin) coffee, prepared in a vacuum coffee maker over the stove. Yes, I know it's old fashioned and takes time, yet that's what quality takes. Nevertheless, I'm always looking for the right cup and therefore will try Paul's at the Villa - thanks for the tip, Sam's dad.
