Do You Know A Good Auto Mechanic?

We're asking you, Patch users, to tell us where to find everything from a trusted pediatrician to a reliable handyman.

To further inform, educate and occasionally dazzle our Belmont Patch users, we are kicking off a new feature that asks for your input on everything from veterinarians and dry cleaners to plumbers and dentists. Think of it as a free, hyperlocal version of Angie's List.

Does it matter that your tailor or guitar teacher isn't Belmont based? No, of course not--we want to reach across the Peninsula to help you find what you're looking for.

To get us started, I'm offering up my choice for most trusted auto mechanic..., who just happens to be located in Belmont. Ralph Kirberg does it all--from brakes and oil changes to the more bizarre things that happen to your car once your teenager starts driving.

Do you agree with my choice of Kirberg Motors as a great place to have your car serviced?  Know of another good place? Let us know in the comment section below.

Hudson Automotive Inc. on South Blvd. in San Mateo is great. They have found all the common and unusual problems with my Escalade!

Thanks Pat....I'll pass this onto the editor at San Mateo Patch!

one secret is "Clearance Auto" doesn't spend much on splashy TV ads, but in large surveys, its customers say clearance auto insurance is terrific in every way -- low prices, helpful customer service and no hassles over claims

The best Auto place is in San Carlos. Toole's garage 501-B Old County Road. I finally found people to trust with my cars! They also send appointment requests/reminders by email. I've never had to wait.

Thanks everyone for these suggestions....keep them coming!

What a great idea Joan -- Hope this collection of recommendations can be in an easy-to-access archive. Belmont & San Carlos used to have the listserv "Local to Me", which was easy to access archived recommendations. Miss them....

Thanks for your feedback Judi....that's what we're trying to do with this new feature---basically ask locals where to find the best........and making those recommendations easy to find on Patch. Stay tuned for more...

I think Toole's Garage in San Carlos is the best Honda, Acura, Infiniti maintenance and repair shop around. They have loaners and have excellent service. I really trust them!

"Toole's Garage" is where I send my friends to have their cars worked on. My granddaughter is having her car fixed right now at Toole's.

Another fan of Toole's Garage in San Carlos, especially for Honda, Toyota, etc. For your Saab and Volvo go to Nordic Motors in San Carlos.
Judi April 19, 2012 at 06:57 pm
...and Nordic Motors for your Subaru! Great work ethic!

Hi Carmen....thank you for your post. Can you be more specific about the location of the dangerousRead More driveway? Can you add a photo?
Michele Moyer June 16, 2013 at 09:17 am
Thanks Joan - there is one in the sub-head of the blog I posted on School-Force Voices today; wouldRead More love if it could be corrected. Been scratching my head til I saw this post :)
Joan S. Dentler (Editor) June 16, 2013 at 11:20 am
Sorry about that! There's nothing I can do on my end----it's system-wide bug, which I believe isRead More fixed now. :)

I also preferred the 'old' Patch - this format makes it difficult to find articles that are aren'tRead More that old. One example was the informative article on who was running for city Council. I was having problems finding it and finally had to query on a candidate's name to find. I don't recall having that issue with the original format. Also our neighborhood had a water break line and we were without water for some hours a few Sundays ago. I tried to find out the reason for the break (because of construction or old pipes?) and could not find anything on the Patch regarding this. Not sure if they just didn't report or I just couldn't find.

Not crazy about the new Patch either. Also, I want to post-for sale, and this section is crowdedRead More with announcements, etc.
Pearl June 14, 2013 at 04:15 pm
Another thing that needs to be fixed: When you go to leave a comment, it takes you over to whereRead More you have to sign in, you sign in expecting to be returned to the article on which you are commenting, but it, instead, takes you back to some different article. PLEASE FIX THIS!!!! Also, please reinstate the feature where we can sign up to be notified if/when more comments are made concerning the article(s) we've commented on so we can follow the conversation. Thank you.

Thanks Sam! You should also post this Half Moon Bay (halfmoonbay.patch.com) and Pacifica PatchRead More (pacifica.patch.com)! I'm sure our readers would appreciate the great tip!

what do the local Belmont restaurants think of this? do these people pay a license to the city?
Joan S. Dentler (Editor) June 4, 2013 at 07:15 am
Hi Don....thanks for your question. Yes, Off the Grid does pay a licensing fee to the city, and soRead More far, we haven't heard any concerns by local restaurants. The food trucks provide an option to a traditional restaurant---pick up and go----and they are only around 4-5 hours per week (on Mondays, typically not a big restaurant night anyway). Have you tried the food yet?
