New 49ers Stadium Nearly One-Third Completed

Construction was halted briefly a couple of days ago to celebrate topping off the highest level of the steel beams.

Friday marked one of the bigger moments in the construction of the San Francisco 49ers new stadium near their training camp in Santa Clara.

The team announced the stadium was 28 percent complete after topping off the steel beams at the highest level of the stadium, overlooking the 50-yard line.

"It's nice to hit a milestone and it's nice to be able to celebrate when you hit these milestones," 49ers CEO Jed York told reporters. "A lot of folks didn't think that this could happen and I think that this is evidence that it can and that it is happening."

It was also noted that 98 percent of the steel being used is in place.
