Entrepreneurial Exposition Coming to San Mateo

The Work at Home Business Expo will take place at the San Mateo County Event Center in April.

Editor's Note: The dates of this event have been pushed back to April to accommodate the exhibitors.

The Work at Home Business Expo, which gives attendees an opportunity to invest in home business models or showcase their own, is set to touch down April 28 and 29 at the San Mateo County Event Center.

The WAHB Expo began touring just last year, but has already held successful shows across Southern California, including in Los Angeles, San Diego and Orange County.

“It’s really about giving all of these business models an opportunity to showcase their model in an environment where they can be compared against one another,” said WAHB Expo producer Derek Romo, who has producing consumer events for more than 16 years.

Unemployment rates having reached 11.9 percent in California as of April, and Romo’s hope is that the WAHB Expo will encourage local citizens to tap into their creativity and pursue the opportunity to create their own businesses.

“Americans are incredibly entrepreneurial and creative,” Romo said. “I’ve been literally astonished at the various type of business models that are constantly introduced at these shows.”

“It’s a totally safe, secure environment where people can move around and make decisions for themselves in the best interests of them and their family,” he added.

Romo was inspired to begin holding the event once he saw the downward progression of the economy, sparking a need for education concerning the home business market.

The WAHB producer has since sought to help home business entrepreneurs escape from those soliciting their businesses online.

“It became evident to me, as the economy turned, that the public was more concerned with being judicious with their discretionary income and looking for opportunities to educate themselves,” Romo said.

“That, combined with my recognition of the home-based industry and the problem of unscrupulous companies soliciting people on the Internet, gave me the idea for this show.”

The Expo will feature a multitude of seminars and guest speakers, as well as workshops, all aimed at educating attendees on the necessary steps to be successful in the entrepreneurial world.

Local talk radio hosts Greg O’Donnell and Marty Nemko will serve as the keynote speakers at the August event. Admission is $10 at the door, or $8 presale at wahbexpo.com.
