Chipotle Giving out 2 Decades of Free Burritos for 20th Anniversary

Almost 22,000 burritos will be given out by Aug. 2.

Believe it or not, it's been 20 years since the first Chipotle Mexican Grill opened its doors. The flagship store was in Colorado, but now the franchise is a massive nationwide success.

The closes Chipotle to Belmont is located at 1135 Industrial Ave. in San Carlos

To celebrate the end of its second decade, Chipotle is literally giving out thousands of free burritos. Starting July 13, the three-week-long Adventurrito will put Chipotle lovers through puzzles with big prizes attached.

For each of the first 19 days of the contest, 20 players will win one free burrito per week for a year (52 burritos). On the last day of Adventurrito, the first 20 players to solve the daily puzzle will win a free weekly burrito for the next 20 years. That's a total of 21,788 free burritos, which Chipotle claims is enough to feed one person for 419 years.

All you have to do is go to Adventurrito.com every day, starting July 13 (the actual anniversary) at 20:20 p.m. Mountain Time, that's 7:20 p.m. in Belmont, and check out the daily puzzle. Players then have 24 hours to finish the puzzle. Everyone who solves the puzzle is entered into a lottery to win a year of free burritos. To unlock the final puzzle, worth 20 years of free burritos, players must first solve the first 19 puzzles.

“Twenty years in, we are changing the way people think about and eat fast food,” said Steve Ells, founder, chairman and CEO of Chipotle. “That vision has connected with a lot of people and helped to make them very loyal customers. In celebrating this milestone, we thought giving something special to our customers was the right thing to do, since they have given so much to us over the years.”

Puzzles will vary from quick and easy to more in-depth and difficult. Some will have to do with Chipotle's history and others will address sustainable food. Each puzzle will be introduced by a celebrity Chipotle fans, including Willie Nelson.

Players can get clues for each puzzle by visiting a Chipotle location and following directions on their receipt.
