Dear Belmont-Redwood Shores Community Members,
This November 2013, 3 seats are open for election on the Belmont-Redwood Shores School Board. Now, more than ever, our community needs good governance to support our children, educators, parents, and community members. To learn how to declare your candidacy for the BRSSD School Board and help positively promote public education in our city, here is some useful information: Deadline to Declare School Board Candidacy: August 9, 2013
STEP 1: Learn the Basics: The Belmont City Clerk, Terri Cook, will be hosting a seminar on June 3rd for people who might be interested in becoming a candidate for office. Please see flyer, Candidate Forum Flyer. People interested in elected offices (e.g., city council, school board, water district) are welcome to attend. The purpose of the seminar is to learn about the mechanics of becoming a candidate.
- When: Monday, June 3, 2013, 7:00 p.m.
- Where: Belmont City Hall, Emergency Operations Center (EOC), 2nd Floor
STEP 2: Get the Specifics: Attend the BRSSD School Board meeting on Thursday, June 6th at 7pm when the current School Board is anticipated to hold a discussion about the upcoming School Board elections. On May 20th, a formal request was made to BRSSD to publicize the upcoming election per Board Policy 9221, and we look forward to their discussion. Please consult BRSSD Board Policies
STEP 3: Take Action: Make an appointment with the Elections Official at the San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division by calling the Filing Officer at (650) 312-5222 to learn the final steps and file your paperwork to declare candidacy for the School Board.
