Sustainable Veggie Garden (Part 2)

We were amazed how quickly the 9 tanks filled up from the rain gutters on our home.  Needless to say, we didn't stop with just 2,000 gallons as there were so much more water we could harvest from Mother Nature.  And we wanted the water to last through the spring/summer planting season.  After all, we had a serious "farm" to maintain! :-)  This time, we decided to purchase a 3,000 gallon tank.  You can imagine our reaction when this tank was delivered!  It was gigantic!  It was fun getting it down to our property from the street since it weighed over three hundred pounds and very bulky!  When there is a will, there is a way!  After we got the tank in place for several months, we got accustomed to the size and worked up the courage to buy another one.  As you can imagine, we got some reactions from neighbors/passersby seeing two huge tanks in our yard.  After all, this is an urban setting, not the countryside! If you pass by our home today, you wouldn't even know they are there as we have done a good job concealing them.  All the tanks were fully functioning this past winter and we were able to capture 8,000 gallons of rain water!  Our plants have been spoiled this summer with regular watering! :-)  So much so that we have used up most of the water in the large tanks.  We are now pumping the 9 small containers into the large one since our outdoor faucet system are plumbed from the two large tanks.  If you are wondering if all this is worth the expense/trouble, stay tuned as the accountant in me tries to figure that out! :-)
