SLIDESHOW: Some Music With Your Father's Day

The summer concert series kicked off Sunday afternoon in Belmont.

Belmont residents had their own special option for celebrating Father’s Day on Sunday: the kickoff of the 35th annual summer concert series in

By 1 p.m., dozens of locals were already relaxed on blankets in the shade as opening act The Distractions set up on the outdoor stage. The Sunday shows are scheduled to run from 1 to 4 p.m. through July. Look for the grassy amphitheater space next to City Hall.

The series is sponsored by local businesses, and revenues are generated by selling concessions at the concerts. Belmont Park Boosters, which sponsors the event, is a nonprofit organization, and many if its members have been involved since the first summer concert in 1976.
