Belmont Woman Named Ms. Bay Area Flirt 2011

Genevieve Yu of Belmont and Ed Selznick of Menlo Park won the titles of Mr. Bay Area Flirt 2011 and Ms. Bay Area Flirt 2011, respectively.

Two San Mateo County singles won a flirting championship in Foster City on Friday.

Ed Selznick of Menlo Park and Genevieve Yu of Belmont won the titles of Mr. Bay Area Flirt 2011 and Ms. Bay Area Flirt 2011, respectively.

Selznick and Yu won a lightning round competition where participants try to get as many home numbers from members of the opposite sex as they can in five minutes, said Rich Gosse, chairman of ThePartyHotline.com.

“You just take a sheet and run around and put their name and number down,” Yu said. “You become like kids in a school yard.”

Although Yu obtained 13 phone numbers in the competition it doesn’t mean she is going to have dates lined up for the rest of the year. “The sheet of paper was given away,” she said. “It’s not like I get to call these people.”

Still, she said the game was a good way to eliminate barriers to meeting new people.

“We want to teach single people how to flirt,” Gosse said. “The purpose of the flirt convention is to help people break through that shell and embrace that inner flirt that we all have.”

The flirting contest was preceded by a keynote address from Susan Bradley, the author of several books including "How to be Irresistible to the Opposite Sex."

The convention was sponsored by the Society of Single Professionals and held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Foster City.
