Cadre of Belmont Singers to Perform "Mass for the Children"

Masterworks Chorale will perform a concert dedicated to the children of Newtown. "Mass for the Children" will be held at the Carlmont Performing Arts Center March 23-24. Ten members of the chorale group are Belmont residents.

Did you know that living here next door to you in Belmont we have superb singers who have thrilled audiences in New York’s Carnegie Hall? As well as in
concerts on four continents??

You too enjoy their expressive sound the weekend of March 23 – 24 – right
here in our gorgeous new Carlmont Performing Arts Center!

This fabulous concert is given by Masterworks Chorale and Ragazzi Boys
Chorus, singing John Rutter’s transforming “Mass for The Children”, dedicated
to the children of Newtown, as a celebration of their lives. Its soaring melodies
and lush harmonies comforted Rutter after the death of his son, and started his
composing again – now one of The most popular choral composers alive.

You, your family and friends will also delight in several lively spirituals arranged
by Moses Hogan and Ron Jeffers, poetry by Sara Teasdale put to song by
Frank Ticheli, Mendelssohn’s “Laudate Pueri”, Saint-Saens’s “Ave Maria”, the
traditional Zulu African prayer for peace: “Ukuthula” by van der Merwe,
and the stirring American folk song, “Hark, I Hear The Harps Eternal” arranged
by Alice Parker.

This hearty cadre of singers, 11 of whom live in Belmont from both choirs,
would love to sing to your smiling faces in the audience!  Come hear:

Ted Allen, Teri Boucher, Ron Brown, Nancy Gardner, Becky Howland,
Jan Jensen, Laurence Keuffer, Mary Metropulos, Diane Musgrave,
Laura Peterhans, and Elsa Schafer--then cheer them on!
