Twin Pines Picnic Area Spruced Up

At the request of the Parks & Rec commission, the Buckeye Picnic area now has improved grassy area for kids to play.

Improvements were made last week to the popular Buckeye Picnic Area in Twin Pines Park. According to Belmont City Manager Greg Scoles's Weekly Update newsletter, turf was replaced and decomposed granite was installed  in the picnic area near the playground.

The project was an item on the wish list of the Belmont Parks & Recreation Commission that makes recommendations for park improvements. The commission suggested that the grassy area next to the playground be expanded, thus making the picnic area more useful.

The Parks & Recreation Department also took the opportunity to replace the thirsty Bermuda grass with a shade and drought tolerant fescue grass that is better suited to Belmont's environment.

Park staff says these improvements will allow parents to sit at a shaded picnic table and watch their kids play in the adjacent playground on the grass field.
