UPDATED: Police Warn Drivers to Steer Clear of Veterans, Maple

Update:  By 5 p.m. Monday, power which had been affecting area traffic lights had been restored in Redwood City, according to police.

More than 1,000 PG&E customers briefly lost power in the outage, according to utility officials.

The outage was caused by an underground equipment failure at about 1:40 p.m. in a vault under Veterans Boulevard and Maple Street, according to PG&E spokesman Jason King.

The outage affected 1,023 customers. Power was eventually restored around 3:10 p.m., King said.

Among the affected buildings was the Redwood City courthouse, which was closed due to the outage, police said. King said other city and San Mateo County offices were also affected.

The outage extended from Veterans Boulevard to Broadway between Winslow and Main streets, King said.

Don't our County Government buildings have backup generators? Would appreciate follow-up reporting on this!
