Thin Mints Anyone?

Girl Scout cookie sales begin Sunday, Feb. 10th, and thanks to a new mobile app, finding your Savannah Smiles and DoSiDos has never been easier.

As a Girl Scout leader, I can tell you there are several important things to remember: the Girl Scout Promise and Girl Scout Law, how to tie a dunk line, enough camp songs to survive a long road trip, and all eight varieties of Girl Scout cookies.

This February 10th, Girl Scouts of all ages will be out, cookies in hand, ready to send you home with your favorite variety. The cookie price and selection is the same as last year, only $4 for a box of Thin Mints, Samoas, DoSiDos, Tagalongs, Dulce de Leche, Trefoil, Savannah Smiles, and Thank U Berry Munches. Cookie sales runs through Sunday, March 17th.

Finding cookies is now easier than ever. Thanks to the FREE Girl Scout cookie locator mobile app (https://www.girlscoutsnorcal.org/pages/product_sales/mobile_app.html), smartphone users and cookie-seekers can search for local sales or by zip code, share locations with friends, add sale dates to their calendars, and discover their own Girl Scout Cookie Personality. The app also provides nutritional details on each cookie and allows customers to sign up for email alerts when cookie booths spring up.  Users can download through the iPhone app store, Android marketplace or by calling **GSCOOKIES to have the app sent directly to your smartphone via text reply (or for desktop discovery, visit iLoveCookies.org).

Low on cash? No problem as many high tech Girl Scout booths will be accepting credit card sales.

Not Just About Cookies
Girl Scout Cookie Sales is a major part of the Girl Scout program, not only because it raises much needed funds for individual troop activities and Girl Scout programs, but for the valuable business skills it teaches the girls. Through cookie sales every girl learns goal setting, money management, sales and marketing strategies, people skills, and business ethics - skills they will build upon into their adulthood. When you purchase your cookies, ask the troop how they plan to use their funds - you may be surprised at their answer!

In addition to buying cookies for yourself, you can purchase boxes and have them donated to the military to bring a taste of home to troops overseas or to a local food bank to bring cheer to victims of disaster or families in need. Gift of Caring is simple: you purchase the gift receipt, and Girl Scouts will make sure your gift puts a smile on someone's face, whether they're far from home or just around the corner.
