San Mateo Man Celebrates 100th Birthday at St. Gregory's

Ed Mansfield was surrounded by friends and family at St. Gregory's Saturday night in celebration of his upcoming 100th birthday on Dec. 14.

Monsignor Edward McTaggart of St. Gregory's helped celebrate Ed Mansfield's 100th birthday over the weekend.

He got lots of help from Mansfield's friends and family.

The 1933 graduate of the University of Notre Dame (Fighting Irish!) was feted with wine and song. His son, Thom Mansfield, who graduated from Serra High School in 1971 and currently lives in Belmont, led the musical tribute, backed by Belmont band The Jack Aces, with classics like Tony Bennett's "I Left My Heart in San Francisco," and Bobby Darin's "Mack the Knife."

Mansfield's classmates from St. Gregory's and Serra in attendance included Dan Murphy and Brian McGlennon.
