Parched Bay Area Soaks Up Much Needed Rain

The first big rainstorm of 2014 has moved through the Bay Area but more rain is predicted last this week, according to weather forecasters.

By Bay City News—

A winter storm brought wet weather and even a little snow to the Bay Area on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service. Portions of Mount Diablo in Contra Costa County were dusted with snow Sunday morning, and other locations above 3,500 feet could experience light snowfall with the passing storm, weather forecaster Diana Henderson said. The rest of the Bay Area was getting some much needed precipitation in the form of rainfall, which was expected to diminish later on Sunday.

As of 1 p.m. Sunday, downtown San Francisco had recorded about a quarter of an inch of rain, Henderson said. Heavier rain fell in the North Bay and on coastal mountains on the Peninsula, Henderson said. About .75 inch of rain was recorded in Bolinas, according to the weather service.

Cool and dry weather was expected to return to the Bay Area today and Tuesday, with a chance of rain heading to the Bay Area later in the week.
