Fireworks Dazzle Thousands on the Peninsula

Patch editors and photographers captured the sights for you to see in Foster City and Half Moon Bay on the Fourth of July.

The night sky lit up Monday night in San Mateo County as fireworks thrilled audiences in Half Moon Bay and Foster City.

In Half Moon Bay, a thick layer of fog rolled in from the ocean moments before the fireworks show was to begin. Local Editor Kristine Wong says fireworks launched into the sky were muddled and left viewers with colored patches of sky. Regardless, the atmosphere is always festive, and Patch has the pictures.

But in Foster City, a huge fireworks show at Leo J Ryan Park was seen under clear skies and mild conditions. And Foster City Patch captured the finale of the day's activities for you to see.

Last year city officials estimated some 35,000 people were in attendance for the whole day, with 20,000 viewers present to watch the fireworks. Local Editor Sarah Yokubaitis says the park was just as full as it was a year ago.
