Update: Answer to This Week's Belmont History Quiz

There clearly are some history buffs in this town.

Earlier this week we asked Belmont Patch users to test their knowledge of both local and U.S. history by telling us as much as they could about the photo above. 

Thank you to George Metropulos and Gordon Seely who came closest the correct answer, so both will win an 'I Love Belmont' bumper sticker.

Here's what Belmont historian Denny Lawhern told us about this photo:

"Belmont School AKA Reid School or Reid School for Boys. William T Reid, Head Master Founded 1885. This was a prep school for young men who would go on to Standford, Yale , MIT and other universities. Located on the Alameda property where the Carlmont Shopping Center is and the church is today. This photo was taken in the 1890's.

This is a photo of The Belmont School Battalion, Company A and Company B . It was taken in the area of where the shopping Center is today. Some of the Cadets went on to serve as officers in the first World War In 1918 the School was purchased by Catholic Archdiocese. In 1932 the school was turned over to the Sisters of Mercy and renamed St Joseph's Military Academy. In 1952 part of the Academy became the parish school of the Immaculate Heart Church and the balance on the east side of Alameda was developed as Carlmont Shopping  Center."
