Belmont's Very Own Secret Garden

Parks & Rec crew members transformed the old hardscape of one of the Barrett Community Center courtyards into a lovely mini-park, complete with a new lawn, trees and flowering plants. Check out this before-and-after slideshow.

Over the past few weeks, Belmont Parks & Recreation Department staff took on the challenge to beautify a courtyard at the Barrett Community Center. The courtyard was converted from a hardscape of cracked asphalt to a soft, pleasant and usable landscaped area.

The park staff project included design, planning, scheduling, excavation, installation of decomposed granite pathways, concrete walkways, picnic table area, irrigation, drainage, plant material including trees and a new lawn.

City staff has received many compliments from artists, neighbors, instructors, youth sports folks and park visitors.
