And the Winner of Last Week's History Quiz Is....

Cam Nuessmann.

Thank you to all who participated in . It's clear that Belmont folks know their history, as there were many correct answers, so, to be fair, this week's bumper sticker will go to the person who had the MOST correct answers FIRST.  And that person is Cam Nuessmann. (Cam, please email me your home address and I'll send you a bumper sticker).

Here's what Belmont historian, Denny Lawhern, has to say about this photo:

"This photo was taken mid 1930s. The sign was located on the south east corner of Ralston Avenue and El Camino Real next to the track--for many years, Belmont's official slogan was "The Hub of The Peninsula" as we are half way between San Francisco and San Jose.

The Belmont Country Club was located the Congregational Church is today. Inside the church today are the light fixtures that have the crossed golf clubs on the lamps.

Notre Dame College was girls only until approximately 1980.  In the background off this photo the first Belmont City Hall and Messners Ice Cream Shop. This was our transportation Hub with the train, the Greyhound Bus stop and Belmont Taxi.

Just to the left of the sign is the original El Camino Bell that was placed there in the early 1900's. Sure would like to find this sign."

Stay tuned for another history quiz next week.
