A Happy Reunion: 'Zoom Zoom' Back With His Family

Thanks to tips from neighbors and the some alert Patch users, Zoom Zoom, the dog that evaded everyone's attempts at rescue, was reunited with his Belmont family Tuesday.

He may have been for a week, but when Zoom Zoom, the lost Shiba-Inu mix, heard the voice of his owner calling to him on Crestview Drive Tuesday morning, he ran into her arms with the energy of a well-rested pup.

Zoom Zoom's owner, Michelle Quintenella was on her way to the Hallmark/Crestview barrier after receiving . After asking several morning walkers if they had spotted the dog, Michelle knew she was on the right track and within minutes Zoom Zoom came running down Crestview to greet Michelle and her other Shiba mix, Rain Check.

"I've been worried sick about him. He just slipped his leash and we've been looking everywhere," said Ray Fawthrop, who arrived with a bowl of chicken and Zoom Zoom's collar and leash.

Michelle posted this comment on the Patch:

"Thank you residents of Belmont & San Carlos for watching over our doggie and helping us to reunite. One clue from Linda on Crestview and Buttercup broke the case right open. After combing the neighborhood, and asking everyone, more clues came of his "on the run habits" Many phone calls this morning too led us to reunite about 8:00."

"He was a foster dog and we were just about to adopt him for good last Tuesday when he slipped out of his collar and took off," said Michelle, who, along with other family members fosters homeless dogs.

Zoom Zoom, who, because he had slipped out of his collar, had no tags or identification, has been spotted by residents throughout the Hallmark neighborhood since last week, yet no one, including animal control officers from the Peninsula Humane Society were able to corral him and bring him to a safe place while his owners were located.

As it turns out, Zoom Zoom does have a microchip implanted under his skin. If animal control officers from Peninusla Humane Society had caught him and brought him to the Burlingame shelter, Zoom Zoom's owners could have been located.

It truly does take a village to save a dog.

Thank you to all our Patch users who helped bring about this happy reunion----it truly does take a village!

Very happy that it's a happy ending. We were very worried about this dog who was so sweet and came up to our door twice. I was interested in taking him in if he didn't belong to someone. Glad he has a home. He looks like a really good dog. Glad he made it living on the streets for a week without any harm.

Thanks DJ....he is a nice little dog, and came up to my door a few times too---walked right past my dog and cats who were sitting in the yard, so it was clear he was used to being around other animals. He was SO happy to see his family!

I'm so glad to start the day with a positive story. Thank you Patch for sharing this brief but heartwarming tale. Zoom Zoom seems to be a fitting name for this pup. :)
Joan S. Dentler (Editor) August 22, 2012 at 11:26 am
Thanks Gloria....yes, his name is befitting, and it was truly an act of care and concern by everyone from those out for a morning stroll to those who left out bowls of food and water for the little guy.

First thing I would ask is who did you talk you, and have you followed up? Was this something youRead More got in writing? Did they give you a timeline that has lapsed?
Steve Hayes June 19, 2013 at 12:54 pm
The practical solution - just paint it yourself. Sounds like a very small job and the City alreadyRead More agreed it is a good idea.
George Metropulos June 19, 2013 at 12:59 pm
Do you really think the city is waiting for someone to get killed?
Michele Moyer June 16, 2013 at 09:17 am
Thanks Joan - there is one in the sub-head of the blog I posted on School-Force Voices today; wouldRead More love if it could be corrected. Been scratching my head til I saw this post :)

Sorry about that! There's nothing I can do on my end----it's system-wide bug, which I believe isRead More fixed now. :)

I also preferred the 'old' Patch - this format makes it difficult to find articles that are aren'tRead More that old. One example was the informative article on who was running for city Council. I was having problems finding it and finally had to query on a candidate's name to find. I don't recall having that issue with the original format. Also our neighborhood had a water break line and we were without water for some hours a few Sundays ago. I tried to find out the reason for the break (because of construction or old pipes?) and could not find anything on the Patch regarding this. Not sure if they just didn't report or I just couldn't find.

Not crazy about the new Patch either. Also, I want to post-for sale, and this section is crowdedRead More with announcements, etc.
Pearl June 14, 2013 at 04:15 pm
Another thing that needs to be fixed: When you go to leave a comment, it takes you over to whereRead More you have to sign in, you sign in expecting to be returned to the article on which you are commenting, but it, instead, takes you back to some different article. PLEASE FIX THIS!!!! Also, please reinstate the feature where we can sign up to be notified if/when more comments are made concerning the article(s) we've commented on so we can follow the conversation. Thank you.

Thanks Sam! You should also post this Half Moon Bay (halfmoonbay.patch.com) and Pacifica PatchRead More (pacifica.patch.com)! I'm sure our readers would appreciate the great tip!

Strongly suggest Patch readers check all the YELP reviews of this business. Very uneven experiencesRead More reported.

what do the local Belmont restaurants think of this? do these people pay a license to the city?
Joan S. Dentler (Editor) June 4, 2013 at 07:15 am
Hi Don....thanks for your question. Yes, Off the Grid does pay a licensing fee to the city, and soRead More far, we haven't heard any concerns by local restaurants. The food trucks provide an option to a traditional restaurant---pick up and go----and they are only around 4-5 hours per week (on Mondays, typically not a big restaurant night anyway). Have you tried the food yet?
