Carlmont Girls Varsity Tennis Stumbles With Loss to MA

Carlmont girls tennis loses against MA which is their first league loss. The tennis team heads to Peninsula Athletic League playoffs this week hoping for victories.

Carlmont lost its first league match against Menlo-Atherton High School on Oct. 16. Carlmont defeated M-A earlier in the season, so this loss puts them both in first in league.

The match consisted of long rallies and multiple games going to the third set. The battle against M-A ended with the score of 3-4.

The only games won were by Veronika Dvorak, Tereza Dvorak, and the doubles team of Mary Farmar and Cassidy Sobey.

Coach Amina Halsey said that the third set wins by Tereza Dvorak and Farmar-Sobey saved the team from losing by a larger margin than what M-A beat them by.

“In my mind, they are the heroes of the team today,” added Halsey.

Normally, M-A is one of the top teams in the league and continues to be on top this year. Halsey commented about the competition, “This team surpassed my expectations. To go 1-1 with M-A is a big accomplishment.”

“The team is definitely ready. I’d like to see more aggressive play from the doubles, but I think they will rise to the challenge,” said Halsey.

Next Thursday and Friday, Carlmont will compete in the PAL playoffs. As the season comes to an end, Carlmont continues to train hard, hoping to earn the title of PAL Champions.
