De Marillac is located in the heart of the Tenderloin, one of the city’s poorest and most violent neighborhoods. Predominately, the people and families who live in the Tenderloin are among the poorest in San Francisco. Unknown to most San Franciscans, the Tenderloin is also home to an estimated 3,500 children. Amazingly, the children of the Tenderloin are, on the whole, unseen because of the neighborhood’s harsh conditions.

De Marillac’s academic program emphasizes reading, writing, English, math, science and social studies. Students typically enter the school below grade level, but bridge educational deficits with an intensive educational curriculum designed to prepare graduates to compete successfully in demanding high school environments.

With the help of their neighbors at Twitter headquarters along with their friends and family, students of the De Marillac Academy will have the opportunity to see the circus for themselves! On Wednesday, August 14th, performers from Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Presents Built To Amaze! visited Twitter's San Francisco office to entice circus-goers and encourage employee donations for the kids to attend.

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Presents Built To Amaze!, an extraordinarily engineered circus experience custom-built for family fun where Children Of All Ages®  find out what it takes to construct The Greatest Show On Earth®. The visionary blueprints have been assembled with a contemporary toolbox of unparalleled imagination that will be unleashed from shipping crates right before the audience’s eyes for the all-new circus spectacular Built To Amaze! playing in the Bay Area at the Oracle Arena (Oakland) from August 15-19, SAP Center (San Jose) from August 21-26 and the Cow Palace (San Francisco) from August 29-September 2.
