Giving Thanks on Thanksgiving Day

As Thanksgiving approaches, I wanted to thank all the voters who made their voices heard by casting their ballot, and to all my supporters who spread the word to their family, friends, and neighbors.  My election to the Belmont-Redwood Shores School Board was a testament to the fact that every vote counts.  On election night, I was ahead by 21 votes, and by the time all the absentee and provisional ballots were counted, I was ahead by 95 votes.  This was civics in action, and we all learned a lot from the experience.

I congratulate Chuck Velschow and Suvarna Bhopale who won seats on the Board, and I look forward to working with them as well as the existing board members.  I invite everyone to come out to Nesbit Elementary on Dec 12 at 6:30p to thank the retiring board members, Brian Matthews and Andrew Stulbarg and to welcome the new school board members as they are sworn in.

As a new school board member there is a lot to learn - attending orientations, visiting schools, learning about the budget, Brown Act, board committees.  I am looking forward to attending the California School Board Associations Conference in San Diego, networking with experienced board members, and really drinking from the firehose as I get ramped up.  That said, I will be relatively quiet on the blog until I get my head above water and also determine what is appropriate content for the blog.

Happy Thanksgiving to all and let's start identifying resolutions for 2014 and beyond - feel free to share any resolutions that relate to the school district in your comments below!
