Skipping School to Take in A Matinee

Students from around the Bay Area came to a matinee performance of "Our Town" at NDNU Theatre on Wednesday.

The students from Notre Dame High School didn't have far to go for an afternoon of theatre, and the students from Palo Alto Prep seemed to enjoy spending part of their school day taking in a play, so Wednesday's matinee at NDNU Theatre was clearly a success. Students and their teachers were treated to an afternoon performance of Thornton Wilder's "Our Town" on Wednesday as part of a re-instituted outreach program to encourage young people to learn the joys of classic American theatre. "We are thrilled to have you here," said Michael Elkins, chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance. "There is a lot of interesting theatre going on here and we would like for you to experience it. Cost should never be a factor," Elkins added. In addition …

For years, Brewer and her family have been part of the Bay Area Educational Theater Company, a nonprofit group run by volunteers that works to foster self-esteem, individuality and teamwork, especially among kids. The theater company's next performance, "Honk!" is Friday at the Cañada College Mainstage Theater in Redwood City. The musical, which is about a duckling named Ugly who is rejected by …
