Go Out on a Limb and Join the Tree Board

The City of Belmont is recruiting a member for its newly-created Tree Board. Are you interested?

In addition to several open commission seats, the City of Belmont is seeking a member of the community to serve on the newly-created Tree Board, which was established with the adoption of the city's revised tree ordinance.

The Tree Board will meet quarterly and its scope of work includes hearing and ruling on appeals of denied administrative permits (for tree removal), establishing a community forest work plan, recommending public tree care policies, maintaining a list of recommended and undesirable tree species, and promoting public awareness of trees and of the city tree ordinance.

The community member of this board will serve a three-year term.

To apply for the Tree Board, or any other commission position, fill out the application form available at www.belmont.gov, or pick up an application in person at the city clerk’s office (One Twin Pines Lane, Suite 375), and return it to the city clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, 2011.

Applicants must live in Belmont.  There is no compensation for this position.

For more information, contact the City Clerk’s office at 650-595-7413.

Tree cutting ordinances, sign ordinances, toughest smoking ordinances in the US, red light cameras with tickets in excess of $500, not letting private schools expand that have been in Belmont for decades, after all we are the "Education City", stand alone fire dept (how will we afford this going forward?). Let's hope the city council can focus on the real issues facing Belmont in 2012. We need to re-vitalize the downtown, attract businesses to Belmont...so that we have a tax base to support improved roads, parks and playing fields.
