Belmont Patch Introduces "Halos & Pitchforks"
New column will give readers a chance to praise (Halo) or jab (Pitchfork) someone in the community.
Know someone around Belmont who's done something nice? Send them a Halo. Know someone who's done something not so nice? Send them a pitchfork.
Here are a few examples to help you get started:
- "A reader sends a halo to Officer Bill McGuigan for stopping traffic so a group of preschoolers could safely cross Sixth Avenue on their way for a tour of City Hall."
- "A reader sends a halo out to the Belmont Public Works crews who installed the new LED lights along Ralston Avenue."
- "A halo goes to the Carlmont High School (it's okay to use names) student who tutors my daughter in algebra--she aced her test!"
- "A reader sends a pitchfork to the guy who didn't clean up after his dog on Cipriani Boulevard last night."
- "A pitchfork goes (name of business/restaurant) for not recycling and composting.
- "A pitchfork to whomever nicked my grandmother's car door in Lunardi's parking lot last Thursday."
Got it? To submit your Halos & Pitchforks for consideration, add it to the comments section below, or email the editor at jdentler@comcast.net and put "Halos and Pitchforks" in the subject line.
All submissions are subject to editing. We'll print your submissions in next week's Halos & Pitchforks. Who wants to go first?

I love that you're implementing this now, Joan!! If I see anything worthy of a halo or pitchfork, I'll be sure to point it out for you

PITCHFORK: to the sneaky fellow who regularly throws sample landscape ROCKS in little plastic bags on my driveway under the cover of darkness. Does he really hope to make a sale this way!? Really?

Pitchfork: I was hoping to issue more halos than pitchforks, but just have to issue a big pointy pitchfork to Marissa at the Belmont Post Office who, after learning I needed expedited passports for my kids and drove all over the peninsula getting the needed paperwork together, having the kids be late for school and convincing my husband to be late to work, would not make an exception to see us this morning as we all stood at the counter paperwork in hand (not realizing an appointment was needed) and she sat in the back having her morning coffee. Once again, the government worker goes the extra mile to help out a neighbor. (Insert sarcasm here.)

Halo: Well, I'm happy yo report that there are still some angels to be found at the USPS. After my bad experience this morning at the Belmont Post Office, I want to give a halo to the Redwood City Post Office and the very friendly and accommodating woman that helped is process our passport application. Many thanks.

Thanks for the "counter halo" Courtney. That's exactly the way this column should work---a friendly reminder when things don't work so well, but then a pat on the back when they do. Keep 'em coming!

Halo: Matt Kowitt of the San Carlos Charter Learning Center board of directors for his tireless contributions to the community in driving the schools charter renewal. His positive attitude and boyish charm have helped create a great partnership with the sponsoring San Carlos School District.
It's on the border of San Carlos and Belmont so I decided to throw this in.
